Should I take Quercetin with my Resveratrol?

The simple answer is no. Although Quercetin is a very potent polyphenol in its own right the effect it has when consumed with resveratrol is to block the critical metabolites of the compound. These metabolites are now thought to be responsible for much of the beneficial effects of resveratrol at the cellular level.

In a study done by Leicester University in the UK it was shown that the area under the plasma concentration curve (AUC) values for resveratrol-3-sulfate and resveratrol monoglucuronides were up to 23 times greater than those of resveratrol. A comprehensive study of the intracellular effects of quercetin and three other polyphenols published in 2006 by the Washington University Research Center confirmed that quercetin actually inhibited Sirt 1 activation in human HT29 cells.
